The Wine Divine

Wine experiences in Austin homes

Really good wine.
Good people.
No wine snobs.

Hosted wine evenings and long dinners in Austin living rooms, led by Lynn and her daughter Shayna. A table everybody helps fill, and an honest answer to every question you have been made to feel silly for asking.

Reserve one evening at a time. Nothing to join.

Who's at the table

Come curious. Come fun. Come hungry.

There is no test at the door. There is a temperament, and it is the whole reason this works.

You will fit right in if

  • You are curious about wine and honest about what you do not know yet
  • You will try the grape you cannot pronounce
  • You are here to make wine friends and widen the circle

It is probably not for you if

  • You count the pours
  • You arrive already unhappy
  • You treat the person whose house you are standing in like they work for you

Every evening happens in somebody’s home. That is the only house rule we have ever needed.

The food

Everybody brings something.

One catered evening a year. Every other night the table is built by the people sitting at it, which is the honest reason the food here is better than most restaurants in this town.

It is a chance to show off, and people take it. Turn up with a tube of Pringles and we will love you anyway.

How it works

Three steps, none of them a vetting process.

01

Pick an evening

Every experience has its own page: what Lynn will be teaching, whose home it is in, what the evening costs and how many places are left.

02

Save your seat

Register for that one evening. There is no membership to buy, no application, and no one deciding whether your palate is ready.

03

Come hungry

Bring a dish to share and whatever questions you have. Lynn and Shayna take care of the wine.

The founder

Lynn was told she wasn’t the right kind of collector.

For eighteen years she bought quietly and well. She read everything and took notes on all of it. And when she finally asked to join the collector circle in her own city, the answer came back polite, vague, and permanent.

So she got credentialled — formally, thoroughly, the hard way — and then did the thing that annoyed them most. She opened the door.

The Wine Divine is the club Lynn wanted to be invited to. The bottles are as good as anything poured behind those closed doors. The difference is that here, “I don’t know what that means” is a perfectly respectable sentence, and the person who says it usually gets the best answer of the night.

Your first evening

Pull up a chair.

Find an evening that sounds good, save a seat, and bring something to share. That is the whole commitment.
